The Place I Imagine When I Close My Eyes

When I close my eyes, I always go to the same place. Deep green moss in the middle of a forest. I am sitting there, meditating, in complete quiet. There is a soft white glow coming through the trees. Everything is balancing. There is no resistance. It is just easy. Just light.

I have never been entirely sure whether the place is real or something I built. It does not matter. It is where the work comes from, and I wanted to tell you about it.

Stillness inside the movement

So much of life is busy. Things moving, things surrounding us, a kind of constant hum. But underneath all of it, there is a stillness. A meditative space you can return to if you remember it is there.

That return is the whole feeling I am chasing in the work. Not escaping the movement, because the movement is real and it is not going anywhere. Just remembering that the still place exists, and that you are allowed to visit it.

What I am drawn to right now

Lately I am pulled toward softer light. Warm ivory, green, a little vintage warmth. Tones that feel grounded and safe rather than bright and demanding. I think it is connected to the same feeling. A wish for things to be a little quieter, a little warmer, a little more at ease.

That pull shows up in the new tones I have been working in. It is not a trend I am following. It is just where my eye, and my nervous system, want to be right now.

What I hope the work gives back

When someone lives with one of these pieces, I hope it does a small, steady thing. I hope it offers a little of that stillness. A reminder of self love, and of love toward the things around us. A safe space on a wall.

The women in the work are part of that. Each one has her own character, her own quiet. They are not only for women. They are for anyone who knows that feeling. Grounded. Light. No resistance. The wish to belong, fully, to your own life and the space you live in.

Thank you for being here

There is no sale in this one. I just wanted to let you a little further in, within the boundaries of who I am, because I think you cannot really feel a piece of work without knowing a little of where it comes from.

It comes from a forest, a soft glow, and a wish for stillness. That is the honest answer. Thank you for reading it.

If you would like to keep seeing where the work goes next, you are always welcome to follow along.
