There are certain things that keep finding their way back into my paintings.
Women.
Clouds.
Flowers.
I never really planned for them to become part of my visual language. They appeared slowly, painting after painting, until I began to understand that perhaps I was returning to them for a reason.
They each hold something I find difficult to express in words.
A feeling of softness.
A quiet inner world.
The space between who we have been and who we are still becoming.

The women
The women in my paintings are rarely about one particular person.
I think of them more as emotional portraits.
Sometimes she is reflective. Sometimes strong. Sometimes lost somewhere inside her own thoughts.
There is softness in her, but not fragility.
That distinction has always mattered to me.
I love the idea that femininity can feel gentle and powerful at the same time. That there can be strength in stillness, and confidence in not needing to be the loudest presence in the room.
Perhaps that is why the faces I paint often feel as though they are somewhere between this world and another.
They are present, but also dreaming.

The clouds
I have always been drawn to clouds because they never stay the same.
They shift.
Disappear.
Return in another form.
There is something very human about that.
Our thoughts move in much the same way. So do our dreams, our identities and the lives we imagine for ourselves.
In my paintings, clouds often become a kind of inner landscape.
They represent the things we carry quietly. Thoughts that have not fully formed. Possibilities. Memories. The places our minds wander when everything around us becomes still.
Maybe that is why I love painting them.
They leave space for interpretation.
You can find your own story inside them.

The flowers
Flowers bring something different.
They remind me of growth.
Not the dramatic kind that happens overnight, but the quieter kind we sometimes only recognise when we look back.
A change in ourselves.
A new season.
A part of us slowly opening.
I often place flowers beside or around the women I paint because, to me, they belong together.
There is something beautiful about becoming without needing to rush it.
About allowing life to unfold at its own pace.

Painting an inner world
When these elements come together, I don't necessarily want the painting to tell you exactly what to feel.
I would rather leave a little space.
Space for you to bring your own memories, experiences and imagination into the work.
Perhaps you see yourself.
Perhaps someone you love.
Perhaps it simply creates a feeling you cannot quite name.
Those are often my favourite connections with art.
The ones that happen quietly.
Art for the home, but also for yourself
I think the pieces we choose to live with can say something about us.
Not in an obvious way.
They become part of the background of our lives.
We pass them in the morning.
We notice them differently depending on the light.
They sit quietly through dinners, conversations, ordinary Tuesdays and the seasons of a home changing around them.
Over time, they become familiar.
That is something I think about often when I paint.
I am not simply making something for a wall.
I am creating something that may eventually become part of someone's everyday life.
And that feels very special to me.

A new chapter is beginning
Lately, I have been back in the studio exploring these familiar ideas again.
But something feels a little different this time.
The work is becoming more layered.
A little more grounded.
Still dreamlike, still feminine, but moving somewhere new.
I am not quite ready to show you everything yet.
For now, I am enjoying that quiet part of creating when the work still belongs mostly to me.
But in November, I will begin sharing what has been taking shape.
A new chapter is coming.
